Noon Change (super size canvas)

“Noon Change” depicts a cowboy roping horses from the remuda for the afternoon work. As each cowboy calls out the name of his mount, the wrangler skillfully sends a “houlihan” loop around its neck then leads the horse out of the herd to the cowboy waiting with bridle in hand. Even today, there are a handful of ranches that still catch horses out of the remumda this way for their days work.

“I feel fortunate to have been standing, bridle in hand, the day I took the reference photos for this piece. Riding drag and eating at the wagon that day were a treat I will never forget.”
