“West Texas in the Spring” features a mare and colt soaking up the sun on a spring morning on the Tongue River Ranch. This pretty bay roan mare, “Dodging Meacom”, is a Spires bred mare acquired by the Tongue River. Her cute little 2021 colt is by TRR Big Iron. This stud has sired some of the Tongue River’s top performance horses with multiple Top Horse winners and RHAA finals qualifiers.
It’s always a challenge to get good reference of the mares and babies but patience pays off because they are so fun to draw!
This is my second of three pieces that will be featured in the Trappings of Texas art show in Alpine, Texas in few weeks! I would love to see you there, but if not, I hope you enjoy my latest piece and that it makes you smile!
“But I will sing of thy strength; Yea, I will sing aloud of thy lovingkindness in the morning: For thou hast been my high tower, And a refuge in the day of my distress.”
